Cupping therapy is an ancient healing practice from China that involves placing special cups on the skin to create suction. This suction enhances blood flow, aiding the body’s natural healing process.
In traditional Chinese medicine, cupping balances the body's yin and yang energies or negative and positive forces. By restoring this balance, cupping helps strengthen the body's defences against illness, boosts circulation, and reduces pain.
The therapy works by increasing blood flow to the areas where the cups are applied. This increased circulation relieves muscle tension, promotes cell repair, and supports the formation of new connective tissue and blood vessels, contributing to overall healing.
Cupping is often used for:
- Pain relief
- Reducing inflammation
- Improving blood circulation
- Relaxation and stress reduction
- General well-being
- Deep-tissue massage effects
What to Expect During a Cupping Session:
During the session, a cup is placed on the skin and either heated or suctioned onto the surface. The traditional method involves heating the cup with fire and using alcohol to create a flame inside the cup. Once the flame is removed, the heated cup is quickly placed on the skin. When the air inside cools, vacuum forms, gently pulling the skin and muscle upward into the cup.
As the pressure changes, you may notice your skin turning red due to the increased blood flow to the area. This is a normal response and part of the therapy’s healing effect.
*Cupping can be combined with Acupuncture, Therapeutic Massage, or Detoxifying & Balancing Therapy for enhanced results.*
